Spring 2025

…providing a safe, happy and peaceful environment where people and families can connect with nature and each other…

Welcome Spring time!

Around the Park…

Welcome to Spring in Wynndean

In the past few weeks we have received some wild weather, severe winds as well as some exciting sightings of dolphins and whales along the Ocean Grove and surrounding coastlines.

Unfortunately, the severe winds have caused some power outages and tree and vegetation damage around the Park.  We have endeavoured to notify guests impacted by these elements.  However, guests may notice some changes due to tree and vegetation losses. We have worked hard to clear these areas and replanting is underway.

Power Outages- a reminder to turn off your power when leaving your site

Approximately 80% of Wynndean sites are metered by the site holder. Wynndean receives no notification of these outages.  For each incident, the volume of reports received by Powercor determines the notifications published to yourselves or via VicEmergency App.  We strongly recommend that power (and water) are turned off when leaving.

CFA Regulations

2024 CFA Regulations permits 3 sides of each site having 1–2mt clear access at all times.  This ensures two CFA crew in full apparatus equipment can access around your site 24/7. This is mandatory in all Parks, regular rubbish removal and safe storage of items in your van'/annex will assist us with this process.

Trimming

A propped ti-tree in Wynndean

A reminder to store away your fairy lights, windcatchers, clothes lines etc around your site.  Wynndean vegetation maintenance commences immediately after the September school holidays. Trimming/pruning is a significant component in maintaining safe accessibility for guests and staff to all sites and allows us to meet the CFA and Caravan Park Regulations 2024.

Safe Storage and Parking

With Daylight Saving not too far away, this time of the year is when the Park starts coming alive with the steady increase of traffic and visitors to the Park.  Please ensure your personal items are stored away to provide safe, clear access for other guests’ vehicles and park in your designated carpark. If you are unsure, please contact the office.

Artificial Turf-

Melbourne Cup Weekend is the date to begin rolling out your artificial turf!

Trades

During all holiday periods only emergency trade access is permitted. The deadline for 2025 trades is December 1.

Sewer Blockages – Baby Wipes a no flush Zone

Over the past 12 months we experienced an increase in sewer blockages occurring by placing baby wipes in toilets.
Correcting these blockages is an extremely costly and time consuming job and causes accessibility issues while the toilets are closed. We kindly remind all guests not to flush any wipes in the toilet.

Some interesting research:-

(City of Greater Geelong), and indeed most areas in Australia, all baby wipes, regardless of whether they are labelled "biodegradable" or "compostable," must be disposed of in your red-lid general waste bin. Never flush baby wipes down the toilet, as they do not break down like toilet paper and can cause serious blockages and "fatbergs" in the sewer system, leading to costly repairs and unpleasant sewage spills.

·         Baby wipes are made from stronger, more durable materials than toilet paper, which means they do not dissolve easily in water and stay intact in pipes. These intact wipes can get caught and accumulate with grease and other debris in your pipes and the wider sewer system, forming "fatbergs" that cause blockages

Fishing formed an integral part of the early Wynndean lifestyle, providing a source of food, entertainment and freedom for many guests and the new Australians. From collecting fish and smoking eels to adventures in the Kingfisher cruiser. While the boat was abruptly abandoned after an overnight stranding on Swan Bay, fishing remains a favourite pastime with many guests and the Wynn family today.

Hard Rubbish & items for donation- form on our website

Once again this season we are happy to collect hard rubbish items which we will recycle and/or donate to charity organisations where possible. This includes old BBQs, fridges, couches and anything no longer required.
There is a lot of “hard rubbish” down the sides/back of vans and we would love to help in cleaning this up!

To assist you may request a collection from our website Hard Rubbish Collection Request — Wynndean or contact the office and we will collect from your site. You may also like to use our Guest Facebook group for donations and sales to other Wynndean guests.

Considering a Spring clean?  We offer extra rubbish bins and recycling collection.  Just reach out to the office when you’re next down.

Vegetation Overlays

As you may be aware, Wynndean is governed by several vegetation overlays that control activities within the Park including tree trimming and use of paving and concrete. While all of the vegetation within the Park has been planted and nurtured by our family and team for over 75 years, we must adhere to the following in accordance to the overlays:

• Trees must not be trimmed, lopped or removed except in accordance with our approved Vegetation Management Plan

• Storm water (surface water) must be retained on site. This can only be achieved by restricting hard surface coverage (structures/pavers artificial grass etc), and providing strategic soakage pits. We do not have gutters along the roadsides to allow the water to runoff to the sides.

The whole area of Wynndean is sand that in places is over 11mt deep above the bedrock. The water table in areas is less than 6 ft below the surface. The trees in the area depend on this water table and the threat to the water table of recent Council works (New roads and gutters that take all surface water away to the River and Ocean) has already left a legacy of lost trees.

We all value our trees as part of the physical environment of Wynndean, (you may notice many trees around the Park are propped rather than removed) and although the last couple of years has provided above average rainfall, we know that there are dry years ahead. If the vegetation is to survive then we must be pro-active and ensure sufficient permeable surface throughout the Park to maintain the surface water that is the lifeblood of many of the trees. Likewise, these trees provide shelter for our guests and habitat for native birds and animals. Who has experienced being woken to the sound of a possum running across their roof!?

So with this information in mind, we kindly remind you to discuss any vegetation queries you have with us.

SPEED LIMIT AROUND THE PARK

A reminder that our speed limit around the park is at walking pace or 10 km.
